Installation Tips

Foundation Walls

Due to the malleability of fresh concrete, HOMEGA SystemTM insulation boards being installed on a new construction must be put in the day the forms are removed, using mechanical fasteners (screws or concrete nails).

The Agence de l’efficacité énergétique du Québec recommends sealing the top and bottom of the insulation boards using low expansion injected urethane.

Interior and Exterior Walls

HOMEGA SystemTM insulation boards can be used in many ways, particularly to insulate the walls of various types of new construction projects. We recommend contacting our technical department for tips and advice catered specifically to your project.

Tips for Walls Measuring Approximately 8 ft

For walls less than 8 ft high, we recommend starting a new row of insulation with the piece cut from the previous panel, so as to minimize waste (as shown below):

Electrical Wires and Panels

Electrical Wires and Panels

When installing HOMEGA SystemTM insulation boards, electrical wires must be inserted into the insulation boards. With a thin bladed knife, cut a “V” shape to a 1 1/2 in depth into the insulation in order to insert the wires. Once again, when compared to traditional insulation techniques, the labour time required here is reduced.

For windows, provide a solid frame A (wood strip) for the installation of wide mouldings.

Cut A 2 1/2 in, 3 1/2 in or 3 7/8 in from the strip so that B comes flush against this same strip. Fix to concrete with suitable mechanical fasteners.

Install the drywall C before the drywall D so that D holds C securely in place (in the corner).

At inner corner, glue on the metal corner (E) after installation of drywall or add a strip of sheet metal (F) (the latter must be pre-folded to 90° and wide enough to be nailed to existing strips (G)).

Nailed Flooring

To facilitate the installation of plywood, we recommend applying a thin layer of glue (solvent-free glue for insulation boards) to the concrete before screwing in the insulation boards. This will keep the HOMEGA SystemTM insulation boards from moving during the installation of plywood.

New Construction Ceilings

2 boards rows application

When using two rows of Homega SystemTM boards on ceilings, we recommend installing a fire-retarding « tentest » between the Homega SystemTM boards and the joists. Once installed, it’s important to immediately cover the insulation panels with drywall panels installed continuously. (before the division installation step).

1 board row application

When using one row of Homega SystemTM boards on ceilings, we recommend installing a 3 7/8 in. Homega SystemTM boards directly on the joists (adding a vapor barrier sheet) and add batt or roll insulation or bulk (fibreglass, cellulose or mineral fibre) on top. Once installed, it’s important to immediately cover the insulation with drywall panels installed continuously. (before the division installation step).
